Ásta Margrét Sigfúsdóttir
40 x 50cm
Portrait of Ásta Margrét Sigfúsdóttir, a typical Icelandic woman born 1890. I tried to keep it loose and lighten her appearance a bit from the reference.
Painting from a photograph is what I usually do.
Painting from an old photo was quite a challenge. This woman lived some hardship like most Icelanders during the late 1800 to mid 1900.
She had 13 children and adopted her granddaughter as her 14th.
People in old photographs tend to look sad and burdened with the hardship of life, so I tried to lighten the overall appearance.
