Á veiðum
Á veiðum means ‘Hunting’ in Icelandic.
Large painting of two Northern gannets on a hunt in the ocean.
When they catch fish, gannets fold their wings back, straighten their bodies, and plunge, sometimes from as high as 30 meters into the ocean.
With the wings folded, they use their bodies as streamlined projectiles to catch their prey. They can reach speeds of 27 km/s. Once underwater, they continue to pursue and capture their prey, using both wings and feet for propulsion.
