Leynir frá Fremra Hálsi
50 x 70cm, Acrylics on canvas. This is Leynir frá Fremra-Hálsi and his rider, Gunnar Kjartansson, who got the painting for his birthday.
For this painting I used two different references to try to capture the horses character.
I didn’t like the background in the references, so I played with it from memory of the East of Iceland where they live.
Painting black horses is quite a challenge, as there is no actual black color used, but the artist can pretty much decide what colors are used for the highlights. Here I used a combination of blues, purples and pink tones.
