The Bond Between Two Horses

The bond between two horses, mixed media, using charcoal, gel medium, acrylics and pan pastels. The gel medium gives the painting some unexpected cool texture.
The canvas was prepared with white acrylic paint and gel medium to give the charcoal some random texture.
To add some highlights back, and shadows, I used Pan Pastels, and then the whole piece got a good coat of Fixative. It darkened more than I was expecting, so I had to go back and forth a bit until the colors were completely fixed.
In the early stages, I used a little bit of white acrylic paint as well as Paynes Gray. The acrylics help to fix the charcoal.
