Flóki
While I was painting a series of small portraits of Icelandic horses, some with a long mane, and others with a short mane, this one developed into Flóki.
Flóki was a horse we had on the farm many years ago. A young woman from Switzerland, Flurina, worked for us for a year, trained him, and ended up buying him.
He lived with her in Switzerland until he died three years ago, at the age of 27.
I got Flurina’s permission to use his name in his memory, as he popped into my mind while painting this one, most likely also because I was thinking of Switzerland, where I was going with these portraits to the World Championships for Icelandic Horses.
